William "Bump" Roddey is a compassionate leader and committed public servant here in the Rock Hill Community.

Since being sworn into office in January 2011, Bump has represented a large portion of the Historic Southern part of Rock Hill on the York County Council. Over the course of his service, Bump has sponsored groundbreaking legislation that has included supporting better wages, competitive benefits for employees and reasonable spending cuts to the county's budget in just over 6 years on County Council. Mr. Roddey is a dedicated mentor and concerned community servant for all people.

He currently serves as Chairman of the Public Works Committee and the Capital Projects/Building Needs Committee and serves as an active member of the Zoning Committee and the Health and Environmental Protection Committee, as well as the Justice & Public Safety Committe for the National Association of Counties.

In addition to his service on the York County Council, he also serves on the Catawba Regional Council of Government (COG).

Most notably, he is prepared to work with public, private, and community partners over the next years as Mayor to spearhead the high-stakes, high-profile transition of Knowledge Park and other new economic projects coming to the area. Planned redevelopment of older areas in the Rock Hill community represents millions of dollars in possible urban planning and development projects that will help indelibly change the landscape of Rock Hill.

Alongside his public service career, Roddey has maintained continuous employment for 19yrs and counting at Resolute Forest Products (Bowater). His 20year anniversary is quickly approaching on December 7, 2017. He is an Alumni of York Technical College and Winthrop University where he obtained his Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics Class of 1996.

In addition to his service on the York County Council Mr. Roddey is a member of numerous service organizations in the area. Some of the more notables are: Central City Optimists, Elks Sterling Lodge #344 of Rock Hill, and Secretary of the Rock Hill Sports Commission. He recently served 2 years as a member of the Board of Managers of the Anne Springs Close Greenway in
Fort Mill SC.

The Roddey Family consists of his wife Jarilyn Sims-Roddey, who is his High School Sweetheart, and 2 children Kaniya, 21yrs old and William III (Trey), 10yrs old. The entire family resides here in the City of Rock Hill and are Members of Flint Hill Baptist Church and committed to a life to public service.

Bump Roddey believes that an investment in quality after school programs that are affordable for all families will improve literacy, develop the students holistic well-being, and can lower crime in our city. See our Press section for the full plan.

Bump Roddey will continue to develop Youth and Adult Sports Programs and promote Sports Tourism in Rock Hill. Roddey is also a Member of the Rock Hill Sports Commission.

Bump Roddey will continue to improve law enforcement relationships with all citizens through community outreach and community policing.


Affordable Housing

Bump Roddey will expand Rock Hill's affordable housing market, as many people are being priced out of the market. Average rental rates are $860.


Public Utility Se...

Bump Roddey will ensure that Rock Hill delivers public utility services (water, sewer, and electric) to our citizens and businesses at the lowest possible cost. The priority will be citizen service, not a $17M profit.
